The first Waffle House opened in Georgia in 1955 and the chain has since grown to more than 2,000 locations in 25 states — but Rhode Island's not one of them.

"A Waffle House would be a strong addition across the state, bringing a reliable and affordable 24/7 dining option to the Ocean State," says the petition, titled, "Let's bring a Waffle House to Rhode Island."

"There is clear public interest and real potential for success. This petition is about bringing a long-overdue dining staple to the Ocean State and showing Waffle House executives that Rhode Island is ready," the petition says.

The petition was started by Evan Masse. In a Facebook profile for Evan Masse with the intro, "Let's bring a Waffle House to Rhode Island!!⚓️🌊 I'm the guy who started the Waffle House petition!🧇" Masse thanked the more than 1,000 signers.

"This milestone sends a clear message: Rhode Island is ready for Waffle House—ready for the legendary hash browns, All-Star Breakfasts, late-night dining, and a new American tradition in the Ocean State," Masse said.

Supporters of the petition were energized by the prospect of a Waffle House opening in Rhode Island.

"I never participate in rallies or protests. But I would be out in FULL FORCE and FIRST in line when the doors open if we make this happen," said Kathleen. "WaHo is a right every person alive should have access to enjoy."

"We need this Waffle House to revive Rhode Island," added Jason.

"GIVE ME WAFFLE HOUSE," demanded Wesley.
