Year over year, jobs were down 1,400 from December 2024, and the unemployment rate was down two-tenths of a percentage point, according to a media release from the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training.

The December unemployment rate was 4.3%, the same as the November rate. Last year, the rate was 4.5% in December, the release said.

The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.4% in December, down a tenth of a percentage point from November. The U.S. rate was 4.1% in December 2024, according to the release.

"The number of unemployed Rhode Island residents — those residents classified as available for and actively seeking employment — was 25,600, up 400 from November," the release said. "The number of unemployed residents was down 1,200 over the year."
