Rhode Island Gov. McKee Signs Proclamation Celebrating Pride Month

PROVIDENCE, RI — Gov. Dan McKee signed a proclamation recognizing June as Pride Month in Rhode Island.

“By proclaiming June as Pride Month, Rhode Island has the chance to honor the contributions and recognize the resilience of the LGBTQ+ individuals throughout the Ocean State,” McKee said in a media release.

“Rhode Island is a state built on love, respect, and inclusion; and as Governor, I will continue to fight for equality for everyone,” McKee said.

“Recognizing Pride Month is our commitment that Rhode Island will not give an inch to any attempts to roll back the hard-won rights of the LGBTQ+ community,” Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos said in the release.

“Our state is founded on the values of tolerance and self-determination, and we will always stand up for those principles,” Matos said.

The State House was illuminated with Pride colors Tuesday evening and the Pride flag was to be flown.
