Rhode Islanders' Chances Of Surviving 'The Purge' — Where The Ocean State Ranks

A recent study ranked how each state would fare if the dystopian horror franchise was true to life.

A recent study ranked state's chances of surviving in the event the dystopian horror franchise "The Purge" somehow became reality.

Unfortunately for Rhode Islanders, the researchers at Manhattan Mental Health Counseling don't see them faring well if the government legalized murder and mayhem for a 12-hour stretch once each year., as the Ocean State placed only 42 out of the 48 contiguous states.

The ranking combined nine measures spanning crime, population patterns and infrastructure.

“A high position in a fictional ranking can be a fun talking point for a community," Natalie Buchwald, spokesperson for Manhattan Mental Health Counseling, said in a media release.

"It should still be understood as a comparison of selected statewide figures, rather than a guarantee about anyone’s personal safety," Buchwald said.

The top state for surviving the purge was South Dakota, followed by North Dakota, New Hampshire, Wyoming and West Virginia.

The least likely for making it out alive was New Mexico. After the Land of Enchantment, the states where you are probably going to die in a Purge were California, Michigan, Texas and Maryland.

Rhode Island slotted in after Colorado and before New Jersey.
