Rhode Island's Most Popular Pooch Names Revealed

A recent study determined the most popular names for Rhode Island dogs.

"In 56.3 million U.S. households, you’ll find at least one dog, and each of these pups needs a name!" according to U.S. News & World Report, which conducted the study.

The favorite name for Rhode Island dog-owners was Luna, which placed second nationally.

Rounding out the top three in the Ocean State were Bella and Max.

Bella was the most popular name in America, followed by Luna and Max.

"Bella and Luna have consistently swapped the top two places since 2023," according to U.S. News & World Report. "These names may reflect multilingual households, as “luna” means moon, and “bella” means beautiful or pretty in both Italian and Spanish."

The report noted that Max is usually near the top of the list as well.

"Disney likely has a role in the name’s popularity, as both Prince Eric’s Old English sheepdog in 'The Little Mermaid' and the cartoon character Goofy’s son share the name," according to U.S. News & World Report. "The antler-wearing canine companion of The Grinch in Dr. Seuss’s 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' is also named Max."
