RI Man Admits To Possessing Child Pornography

Prosecutors said Patrick Newton, 27, was caught by Homeland Security agents with a thumb drive containing child pornography.

CUMBERLAND, RI — A Cumberland man pleaded guilty Monday in federal court to a possession of child pornography charge.

Prosecutors said Patrick Newton, 27, whose email and IP address were used to view child pornography, was caught on March 30, by Homeland Security (HSI) agents and Rhode Island State Police.

In January 2022, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children provided HSI with information they obtained from a Canadian-based online messaging and chat service that, on multiple dates, an IP address and email, later determined to belong to Newton, was used to access and view child pornography.
