RI Man Arrested In Virginia After Fatal MA Shooting

Destiny Fontes Silie, 25, of Warwick, was caught in Chesterfield, Virginia, and will be charged with accessory after the fact of murder.

WARWICK, RI — A Rhode Island man was one of two people arrested in Virginia Wednesday after police said they were seen fleeing from a fatal shooting in Brockton, Massachusetts Tuesday.

Destiny Fontes Silie, 25, of Warwick, and Brendan Fernandes, 33, of Brockton, were caught by Virginia State Police in Chesterfield, Brockton police said. Fernandes was charged with murder and Silie was charged with accessory after the fact of murder, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said.

Emergency crews responded to multiple reports of a shooting on East Street in Brockton around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday to find a man suffering from what police called a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The man, identified as Brima Koroma, 24, of Boston, was taken to Brockton Hospital where he did not survive his injuries, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said.

Police reported seeing a blue car driving south on East Street while responding to the scene and issued a warrant for the car and the two people seen inside it during their investigation. Virginia State Police then found a car matching the description and arrested the men, officials said.
