Arthur Solvang, 84, Former Deputy State Fire Marshal
Solvang was a Coast Guard veteran and a Deputy State Fire Marshal until retiring; a memorial service will be held April 6.

Arthur Solvang, of Cheshire Drive, Barrington, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at the Rhode Island Veteran’s Home in Bristol. He was 84.
He was the husband of Lillian (Sievert) Solvang. They were married 61 years.
Born in Bronx, New York, he was the son of the late Arthur and Ingeborg (Birkelund) Solvang. After graduating from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY, he was a sailor in the merchant marine and the Navy before transferring to the Coast Guard.

He was a veteran of the Korean War and served more than 30 years in the U.S. Coast Guard retiring as a Captain. He then worked as a Deputy State Fire Marshal until retiring.
He was a long-time member of St. James Lutheran Church and the Hampden Meadows Volunteer Fire Company.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Elna Solvang of Moorhead, MN and Elyn (Henry) Solvang Moscicki of Batavia, NY; two sons, Arthur Solvang of Willow, AK, and Mark Solvang of Englewood Cliffs, NJ; a brother Clifford Solvang of Manchester, NJ, and three grandchildren, Erik and Bryan Moscicki and Alec Solvang.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 6 at 4 pm in St. James Lutheran Church, 49 Middle Highway, Barrington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. James Lutheran Church or the RI Veterans Home 480 Metacom Avenue Bristol 02809 would be appreciated.
