Barrington 220 Educational Foundation Announces 2017-18 Major Projects

BARRINGTON, IL — The Barrington 220 Educational Foundation is pleased to announce its funding support of major projects for the upcoming academic school year. The organization’s goal is committed to supporting major projects that prepare our district’s students for a successful future in a competitive workplace.

For those students wanting to explore careers in the healthcare field, a new opportunity will soon be available at Barrington High School. The Barrington 220 Educational Foundation is proud to announce our support of a Healthcare Practice Room located at Barrington High School. This new innovative space and supporting curriculum will openthe door to healthcare careers for many future students.

Presently, students interested in pursuing a Certified Nursing Assistant license must travel, by means of their own transportation, to Harper College, which significantly limits the number of students who can take advantage of these courses. Creating a Healthcare Practice Room at Barrington High School will allow more students to receive this important curriculum while still receiving dual credit at Harper. A student who
takes all three courses will receive 10 credit hours and be eligible to take the Nurse Aide Competency Exam to become a state licensed CNA. The Barrington 220 Educational Foundation will provide $90,000 for the development of the classroom, which is expected to be available for use during the 2018-2019 academic year.

"We are very grateful to the Foundation for providing our students with the opportunity to have a Healthcare Practice Room at Barrington High School,” commented Julie Baylor, BHS Science Department Chair. “The hands-on learning environment will be beneficial for students who wish to pursue a healthcare-related career in the future."

Additionally, the Foundation will also continue our support of the highly successful Elementary STEM initiative, plus the Foundation will also commit $50,000 to the Sunny Hill Learning Commons project. This future redesign of the traditional library space will not only complement the Elementary STEM program, but will reflect the reality of today’s learning styles and needs.

"The major projects we will fund for 2017-2018 will continue to generate the progressive, leading-edge programs that set our school district apart and better prepare our students for the rapidly changing and globally competitive workforce,” said Katherine Logue, Barrington 220 Educational Foundation Chairperson.

Since its launch in 1999, the Foundation, thanks exclusively to community support, has provided over $2.9M in funding to Barrington 220 for groundbreaking programs that make our school district one of the top in the country. Over the years, the organization has supported a variety of programs that range from individual classroom initiatives to the introduction of new educational technologies. It has also been an enthusiastic
supporter of public speaking events that include nationally recognized authors and experts who bring new insights into learning for both students and their parents.
