There was a full-scale search effort immediately following the report of Antons’ disappearance, but local police and fire departments and the U.S. Coast Guard called off the search after a few days.

Volunteers from New England Search and Rescue continued where the official authorities left off. They, along with family members and other volunteers, gathered under a blue tent at Barrington Town Beach each day as people continued to walk the coast and look for the missing husband and father.

Though the search effort, the family remained hopeful that he would be found safe, but there was no indication that he wanted to walk away from his life.

“All of his personal affairs are intact,” his aunt, Joan Wallack said. “This is a man who bought a new shed for his house the day before and had it installed. This is not someone who walked away from his life.”

The DEM did not immediately indicate who discovered the body.
