On the evening of Saturday, December 10, a diverse group of local musicians will be performing at the Barrington Middle School auditorium.  Doors open at 6:30.  There will be homemade baked goods and fresh brewed coffee (from Coffee Exchange).  The show starts promptly at 7:00 and goes until 9:00.  A $5 donation is suggested - all proceeds go to support the renovations at the Bay Spring Community Center.  On-site babysitting will be provided.

We are very lucky to be able to share holiday cheer with a group of both professional and amateur local performers.  It’s another example of the depth of talent that live in the town of Barrington. The musicians will include:

  • Debra Mann, accomplished Jazz pianist (the embodiment of “talented and lovely”)
  • Pat McGee, guitarist and songwriter (the real deal, we’re lucky he’s not touring)
  • Mark Whittaker, singer/songwriter (our teacher and friend)
  • No Strings Attached, a cappella singing group from BHS (so fun and impressive!)
  • Bay Spring Folk, eclectic folk band (we sure have fun!)

It promises to be a great night.  John Taylor, Director of Barrington Parks and Rec Department will be our emcee.  It is through his support that this night is possible.  Other collaborators on the event include the BAY Team (thanks for all your help!), Coffee Exchange (thanks for the delicious coffee), and the Bay Spring Community Center (BSCC).

The BSCC is a community effort organized around a building over in the Bay Spring neighborhood of West Barrington.  Through the efforts of a dedicated and committed volunteer board, the BSCC has sparked a great deal of creative and cultural programming over the past couple of years.  The plan is to continue and expand arts and cultural programming through this building, for all of Barrington (and beyond).  You are all welcome to join the BSCC (www.facebook.com/BSCC-Bay-Spring-Community-Center).

The board consists of: Pete Gray (Board President), Gia Drummy, Patty Hopkinson, Michael Malik, Debra Mann, Dave Parkhurst, Susan Wood.

The building, on Narragansett Ave., is owned by the town of Barrington.  Several renovations were required for this building.  In 2009, phase one of the renovations was completed.  The BSCC board is now working closely with the town on the second and final phase of renovations.  This process has become a true public/private partnership, in that all sides are contributing time, money, brainpower, and effort to make this dream become a reality.

And what is that dream?  To establish an arts and cultural center for all of Barrington.

We are close to realizing this.  You contributions and involvement will help.  A lot.  If you want to get involved, contact the BSCC through their facebook page or visit their membership table during the show on December 10th.
