Bunch of Great Talent Saturday at Fiddle 'n Folk Fest in Haines Park

Visit Haines Park Saturday to see a fabulous array of fiddle music from 3 to 7 pm It's free! Co-sponsored by RI DEM and Local Brew Coffeehouse Events, artists local and regional will perform.

The idea of the show is to bring a bunch of great local and regional talent together for no other reason than to have fun with music!  The fiddle will be the common thread binding the many different types of acts together.

Through the generosity of RI DEM, who see the value of Haines Park and did what they could to make this great park available for the show, Saturday will be fun fun fun.

There will be solo performers, family duets, and bands. Along with great musicians like Cathy Clasper-Torch, Bob Drouin, and Ned Connors, you’ll also see some great bands. Here’s just a bit about the bands you’ll see:

The Old Fiddlers' Club of Rhode Island - This is an organization whose roots go back at least to 1912.  This event gives it another chance to connect amateur fiddlers with this great Rhode Island institution.  They are planning to pull out their best tunes from the RI Swamp Yankee, Irish, Scots, French Canadian, and New England fiddle heritages.

A Bluegrass Invitation Band - Like their name, they have expanded and moved in new directions over the years since being established in the spring of 2006.  Today, they have a unique style consisting of classic Bill Monroe-style bluegrass mixed with more complex and current acoustic music such as is heard in the music of the Avett Brothers and Michael Cleveland. Our musical arrangements have developed a greater depth to go along with expanded vocal harmonies.  Check out www.bluegrassinvitation.com

Bay Spring Folk - Barrington’s own eclectic folk band. This group of neighbors and friends (friendly neighbors? neighborly friends?) plays a broad range of music from old time to contemporary, traditional to original, mellow to rockin’. Members of the band are also the primary producers/organizers of the show. You can check them out on facebook under Bay Spring Folk.

There’ll also be a lot of local performers from Barrington, Riverside, and Warren involved, too.  In no particular order: Cecilia & William Yao, Ned Connors, John Wood, Sydney Monstream-Quas, Gary Deslaurier, Dr. Greg Sadovnikoff, Larson Gunness, Andy Reich and daughter, Dustine, and Karl Dennis.

It’s not too late to volunteer!  Just call Larson at 270-5876 or email him at lgunness@alum.mit.edu. We’d be happy to have the help! We pay nothing and will make you work hard!
