Seniors Do It Best!

Well-being in older generations requires some work.

Hope you didn't think this is another blog post about senior pranks, it's more about senior planks!

New research done by the Gallup-Healthways Wellbeing index indicates that people over the age of 65 have the highest degree of well-being compared to other generations of Americans (I always thought the boomers were the happiest!).

Interestingly enough one giant (no pun here) reason why other generations can't compete with the seniors is due to obesity. Younger generations are getting heavier and heavier. In fact, the newest generation of Americans have a lower life expectancy than the generation ahead of them.

What? That's right, for the first time perhaps in American history (maybe except the Civil War generation) do we have a population of Americans that will live less on this earth than the generation ahead of them! Whatever happened to advancements in science?

The cold hard fact here is that living a healthy lifestyle at time takes work. But this work shouldn't be viewed as tedious and unfun. Instead changing behaviors that eventually become habit is the difficult part. Once you begin your new behaviors and start making them a part of your life it will be difficult to go back to your old ways. Below I listed several areas of your life that contibute to a healthier and more "well" you even at the oldest of ages:

  • Spending time with loved ones, this may include pets
  • Maintaining a good diet and exercising regularly
  • Being financially secure
  • Having a piece of mind, spirituality
