Bristol County Population Declines in Latest U.S. Census Report

Like much of Rhode Island, the population of Bristol County decreased in the last 10 years.

Three of Rhode Island's five counties had declining populations in the last decade, and Bristol County was one of them. The county's population decreased 1.5 percent, from 50,648 to 49,875 people, according to U.S. Census data released Wednesday afternoon. That was a common trend throughout Rhode Island, as there were as many communities losing population as there were gaining in the past decade.

Overall, the Rhode Island population increased less than 1 percent during the decade, for one of the lowest growth rates in the nation. Below is a chart showing the 20 largest municipalities, ranked by population, in Rhode Island. Data specific to Barrington will be released in the next 24 hours.
