Even though the sun doesn’t seem to have gotten the message, spring is here, and that means there are lots of events happening in and around Barrington to brighten up your weekend.
5th Annual Wool & Fiber Festival
Where/When: Coggeshall Farm, Colt State Park, Bristol on Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm
Why go: This is a one-of-a-kind festival, one of the only fiber festivals in the Northeast, and it’s held in the perfect location at historic Coggeshall Farm in Bristol. You can watch craftspeople demonstrate traditional and contemporary fiber arts, buy textile supplies and yarns, see sheep-shearing, and much more.
Pricing: $8 adults; $5 seniors and children age 5 to 12
Boating Safety Day
Where/When: Brewer’s Cove Haven Marina, 101 Narragansett Ave., Barrington from 10 am to 2 pm Saturday
Why go: Kick off the boating season by brushing up on your skills, learning about safety and enjoying the company of the community of boaters in the area. The event is hosted by the harbormasters of Barrington and East Providence. You can tour Coast Guard boats and enjoy a cookout prepared by the Elks Lodge.

Dolls & Teddy Bears Ice Cream Social
Where/When: Kids Kove Playground behind Town Hall, 10 am to noon Saturday
Why go: It’s an event that’s fun for the whole family. Kids can bring their teddy bears and dolls from home to enjoy a day of games, food and fun sponsored by the town’s Recreation Department and the Barrington Preservation Society.
Pricing: Free, but donations welcome
“Hot Lunch” Student Play
Where/When: Middle school at 7 pm Friday and Saturday
Why go: See dozens of elementary school students sing, act, and dance in an Arts Alive! musical theater production that’s set in a school cafeteria and playground.

Local Brew Coffeehouse
Where/When: Bay Spring Community Center, 170 Narragansett Ave., Barrington from 6:30 to 10 pm Saturday
Why go: It’s a family-friendly evening featuring live music by local musicians, plus storytellers, stepdancing and more. A children’s program begins at 6:30 pm; adults at 7 pm.
Pricing: $5, free for children
