Farmers Market Set to Open for Season

Go Local farmers and artisans market launches another season Saturday morning at 'White Church' on County Road.

You should find a lot of good eating Saturday morning (June 4) at the "White Church."

The GO LOCAL farmers and artisans market returns to the Barrington Congregational Church on County Road from around 9 am to noon. About two dozens vendors will set up outside the church's education building.

“There should be joy in food,” said Lisa Browning, a registered dietitian who manages and promotes the Saturday morning market. “And it’s what food should cost.”

Among the local products at the market will be fresh eggs, breads and pastries, artisanal cheeses, meats and fish, all-natural and cage-free poultry, candy and confections, organic cranberries, salad greens and herbs, dips and spreads, organic honey and related products.

“You should know what you eat,” Browning said, and you will see that “while supporting the local economy.”

The farmers market also will have “something special every week,” she said.  The "special" for the opening Saturday will be La Creperie, on the East Side of Providence, preparing made-to-order crepes.

Leslie Carnevale, the owner, is the opening day guest. She will local rye flour, fresh spinach and cheddar for her creations.

GO LOCAL accepts food stamps, WIC vouchers and senior coupons, Browning said.

“This is the way we should be eating,” Browning said.
