Get Out: 5 Things to Do on Final Summer Weekend

Its starting to look like fall but there are still some fun summer things to do this week all around the area.

The final summer weekend on the calendar is coming up, with lots of fun ready for you at fairs and festivals – and the Newport International Boat Show. Don’t miss out – get out!

Harvest Fair
Where/When: Coggeshall Farm Museum, Colt State Park, Route 114, Bristol from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday.
Why go: Coggeshall is the real deal: an historic working farm dating to the 18th century. The annual Harvest Fair is a chance for families to enjoy playing games, watching farm animals, listening to music – and just having a great time outdoors.
Pricing: $8 adults; $5 children

Beach Cleanup
Where/When: Barrington Beach from 2:30 to 5 pm Saturday
Why go: You enjoyed the beach this summer? You want to keep it the clean and natural place that it is? Here’s your chance to do your part, picking up litter as part of a team of volunteers.

“They Live By Night” Film
Where/When: Tonight at 7 at the Barrington Library
Why go: This 1949 film is an under-appreciated classic, directed by Nicholas Ray and starring Farley Granger. The storyline? An escaped convict is injured and is helped by a woman with whom he has an ill-fated relationship.

Haines Memorial State Park Centennial Celebration
Where/When: Haines Memorial Park from 1 to 5 pm Sunday
Why go: Help the Friends of Haines Park mark 100 years for this state park, under lease to Barrington, with games, music, food and fun.

Newport International Boat Show
Where/When: Daily through Sunday (see website for hours) at the Newport Yachting Center, America’s Cup Ave., Newport
Why go: This is one of the biggest in-water boating events of the year, and it’s right here in the East Bay. Check out the latest in boats and boating equipment – or just enjoy the nautical scene.
Pricing: $18, children under 12 free
