Get Out: Kids Carnival, Outdoor Pursuit

As the school year winds down, there are plenty of activities for kids to enjoy in and around Barrington this weekend. For adults, check out the latest 2nd Story Theatre production, "Nuts!"

Kids’ Night Out Where/When: Bayside Family YMCA Friday, 6 to 9 pm
Why go: Open to children age 4 to 10, it’s a chance for them to have fun at the Y while their parents enjoy a worry-free night out.
Pricing: Register before 5 pm today, and the rate is $15 for the first child and $5 for each additional child in the family. Drop-ins are $25 and $15.

Kids’ Carnival 
Where/When: Kids’ Junction, 406 Maple Ave. 9 am Saturday
Why go: There will be an appearance by magician Lon Cerel, as well as face-painting, games, a Moonbounce, balloon artistry and more. Rain or shine.

Outdoor Pursuit Where/When: Haines Memorial State Park, Metropolitan Park Drive, Barringon/East Providence line, 11 am to 3 pm Sunday
Why go: The Department of Environmental Management is holding a series of outdoor adventure days in Rhode Island state parks for families. This one’s at Haines, in the waterfront area close to the boat ramp. There will be raffles, cooking demonstrations, seaweed art, martial arts, rock climbing, and much more.

Bristol Orange Crate Derby 
Where/When: Bayview Ave., Bristol, race 3 pm Sunday
Why go: Part of the lead-up to the Fourth of July celebrations in Bristol, this is the town’s 62nd annual Derby. You have to live in Bristol to enter, but the race is great fun for anyone to watch.

“NUTS!” 
Where/When: Old Bristol Statehouse, 240 High St., Bristol, Thursday through Sunday, 8 pm (3 pm Sunday)
Why go: In this special performance at the historic Statehouse, 2nd Story Theatre puts on a courtroom drama with comedic twists.
