'Hire a Scout' to the Rescue

Real estate agent turned to Barrington Boy Scout Troop 2 when she needed some extra help for an open house last weekend.

Real estate agent Dawne Nordstrom wanted a couple of extra representatives on hand for an open house she hosted on Rumstick Road last Sunday, April 1.

She turned to Barrington Boy Scout Troop 2 and its “Hire a Scout” fundraising effort.

“The home is known to most people in town as the Karl Jones Rose Garden House,” said Nordstrom of Residential Properties. “The home is very spacious. Because it is a large property, I wanted to have someone else at the home with me.”

Hire a Scout to the rescue.

“The Scouts greeted people at the front door and accompanied potential buyers as they toured the property,” she said. “These kids are examples of what is right about growing up in Barrington and that we have good kids doing good things.”

Hire a Scout is helping the troop raise money for a trip to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in August.  The Scouts will trek for two weeks through the Rocky Mountains of Sangre de Cristo on the 137,000-square-mile Boy Scout ranch.

“The Scouts charge $15 for two Scouts for two hours,” Nordstrom said. “They do everything from raking, basement and garage cleaning, shopping and spring yard cleanup.”

You will probably be put on a waiting list, though, said Nordstrom.

“Presently, their calendar is full,” she said.

That was confirmed by a Boy Scout leader who said the next few weekends are filled with the boys being hired out all over Barrington.

Put a Stickie note on your refrigerator door as a reminder that the Boy Scouts might be available to do a good deed for you down the road.
