Holiday Shopping Tied to Tree Lighting
Barrington Business Association finalize its holiday promotion -- a "passport to savings" coupon book to be distributed in November with a drawing at the Dec. 3 tree lighting.
The Barrington Business Association finalized its holiday promotion, tied closely to the Dec. 3 tree-lighting ceremony at Town Hall, at its monthly meeting at BankNewport on Tuesday night, Oct. 11.
The focus of the promotion is a “passport to savings” coupon book with each participating merchant offering its own discount to holiday shoppers. The books will be distributed at each participating business in November.
Coupons ripped from the books during the month will then be collected for a drawing at the annual tree-lighting ceremony. A prize remains to be determined.

Participants in the “passport” have until Friday, Oct. 14, to reserve their spot, said Holly Smith of Hollies on the Avenue, who has been leading the BBA with Lois Coppolino of Daisy Dig'ins.
“They can contact me or Lois,” said Smith.

“We need commitments,” said Coppolino. “We want to get as much involvement as possible.”
The approximate cost of getting involved in “passport to savings” is $75, she said, plus the cost of the annual membership, $52, for any merchant who has not yet joined the association.
The merchants also plan to sponsor a trolley and a sleigh ride for shoppers and children to make their way around Barrington during the late afternoon and early evening on Dec. 3, said Smith.
