Madigan's Cafe And Wine Bar Opens To Divine Reviews

Photographer Robyn Rowles' new venture is sure to win hearts, if the stomach is indeed the way to true love.

It was barely 11.30 on Monday morning, the grand opening day for Madigan's Cafe and Wine Bar, and already several tables in this exquisite little bistro were occupied.

Guests of the restaurant were greeted by a host who welcomed them to owner Robyn Rowles' new eatery. Rowles is perhaps best known for her work as a photographer and owner of Artist In You, a studio on Maple Avenue.

What some may not be aware of, is that Rowles is no stranger to fine cuisine and exceptional service — she owned a restaurant for several years when she lived in Scotland — and is a fine cook and baker in her own right.

Rowles said the restuarant opened at 7am, and that breakfast was very enjoyable for guests and staff alike.

"It was a really nice first breakfast service," said Rowles, who added that she was looking forward to lunch service being equally enjoyable.

Barrington resident Joan Landskroener saw information on Patch about Madigan's opening today and decided to stop in for lunch.

A bite of the steak and pear salad she ordered had Landskroener in raptures over the dish.

"Mmmmmmm, oh this is divine," said Landskroener after her first forkfull. "Just right."

Other diners were also enthused over the fresh vegetables and meatless options.

Eleanor Wallace was dining with her sister, Cynthia Loomis, after running errands in Barrington that morning. Loomis ordered the Meatless BLT and pronounced it "excellent!"

Wallace said she was impressed with her Polenta Veggie Frittata, as well as with the staff. "They're very nice here. Very friendly," she said.

Entrees range in price from $8 for the meatless BLT or vegetarian salad, to $14 for a delectable seafood linguini in a saffron cream sauce.

Madigan's also has a selection of scrumptious desserts, including Rowles' own invention of caramel potato chip cookies - the perfect mix of sweet and salty.

For those who might wish to enjoy a glass of wine or beer with lunch or dinner, there are around a dozen selections of beer, white wine, or sparkling wine and 20 red wines on offer.
