BARRINGTON, RI — Some youngsters last October found two suitcases in the woods behind the Wampanoag Trail, according to WPRI-TV and the Providence Journal. A parent brought the discovery to Barrington police, and $195,000 was found inside. The story is coming to light now because a Drug Enforcement Administration agent has filed court papers seeking to seize the cash under drug forfeiture laws, if the money was obtained in an illegal marijuana grow operation.
Patch has asked Barrington police Chief John LaCross for comment.
"What the Journal wrote and Ch 12 is fairly accurate," Chief LaCross said when asked if he could confirm the story basics. "I cannot comment until the case is resolved."
