Neighborhood Resiliency Forums Planned for Barrington

The goal of the project is to identify projects and actions that can be implemented to increase Barrington's resilience to climate change.

BARRINGTON, RI — A series of meeting will be held in Barrington aimed at helping the community become more resilient in the face of climate change and rising sea levels. The Bay Spring Neighborhood Resilience Planning Committee is looking for residents, property owners, civic organizations and stakeholders to be involved in the planning process.

The first event is a neighborhood tour from 10 a.m. to noon at Latham Park on Latham Avenue. Participants will look at areas of concern and strength, share information and build first-hand knowledge of the key issues.

An information gathering and brainstorming workshop will be held Feb. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bay Spring Community Center on Narragansett Avenue. Participants will learn about forecasts for climate impacts, past and ongoing projects to increase resilience, and can share their own ideas for projects and acetions that can increase resilience.

A prioritization of potential actions and projects workshop will be held Feb. 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bay Spring Community Center. Participants will see work generated during and after the first workshop and have the chance to express preferences for the priority of potential actions and projects.

Residents and property owners, neighborhood business owners, neighborhood organization leader and members, members of associated town boards and commissions, environmental organization leaders and members, and citizens interested in a more resilient Barrington are invited to attend.
