Teen Taken To Hospital After Alleged Knife Attack In Riverside
The fire department around 9 p.m. Sunday responded for a patient hurt in a knife attack. Police said it happened in the woods behind Shaw's.

BARRINGTON, RI — The Barrington Fire department responded Sunday night to a report about a person hurt in a knife attack. A 16-year-old with a bloody hand was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital. According to Barrington police Chief John LaCross, the victim is an East Providence teen who went to his girl friend's house in Barrington for help after he was injured in the woods behind the Shaw's Supermarket in Riverside. The alleged attack happened in East Providence.
Barrington police and rescue responded because an adult woman on St Andrews Way in Barrington called them to report a 'past' assault. The injured teen was at her house. He told her he had been "jumped" behind the Shaw's in Riverside. The incident happened earlier.
Officers arrived and found the teen sitting on a front step and bleeding. They called a rescue. Police also asked him what happened. He said he was in the woods behind the Shaw's when by two males in hoodies pushed him down. He put up his hands to defend himself.

"That's when he thinks he was cut," the chief said. The two males fled.
"Nothing was said, and nothing was taken," the chief said. He said he didn't call 911 right away because he thought his cell phone was out of power. He had called his father. He could not say why he went to his girl friend's house for help instead of going home.
