BARRINGTON, RI — With the first day of school about a week away, more than 75 percent of students in Barrington Public Schools will head back to class on Sept. 3 fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.

That's according to data released Friday by Barrington Public Schools, which says the district has the highest student vaccination rate in the state. School officials also said 97 percent of faculty and staff are fully vaccinated.

As of August, only the Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson versions of the vaccine are approved for use in children between ages 12 and 18.

The back-to-school plan also included information on how quarantine protocols will work this year for close contacts of those who contract COVID-19.

Anyone who is within 6 feet of someone who test positive for 15 minutes or more must quarantine, unless they meet one of the following exceptions.

  • If you are fully vaccinated (age 12+) and have no symptoms, you will not have to quarantine.
  • If you tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 3 months, are fully recovered, and do not have symptoms, you will not have to quarantine.
  • If a face covering was worn “appropriately and consistently” by you and the person with COVID-19, you will not have to be quarantined.
