Performers of Many Faiths will "Sing Out for Peace!"

Performers of Many Faiths Will "Sing Out for Peace!" on Sunday, October 25th at 4:00 pm at Temple Habonim in Barrington.

Sing Out for Peace!, a remarkable interfaith event featuring music, dance, spoken word and prayer from different faith traditions and cultures, will be hosted by Temple Habonim on Sunday, October 25th. This multicultural celebration aspires to bring diverse communities together in the spirit of peace and mutual respect.

All proceeds from Sing Out for Peace! will be donated to Rhode Island for Community and Justice, a non-profit group dedicated to fighting bigotry and prejudice and to promoting understanding among races, religions and cultures through education, advocacy and conflict resolution.

The day’s program will include offerings by area community members and leaders of several faiths. Prafulla Velury and her students will perform classical Kuchipudi dance and Carnatic music from southern India. Waleed Muhammad, a Muslim chaplain and singer/song-writer, will play guitar and sing songs of peace and faith. The Ruach Singers, Temple Habonim’s a capella group, will sing Hebrew and African prayers, African-American spirituals and civil rights songs. The Prism of Praise Community Gospel Choir, a multicultural Christian choir, will perform music inspiring hope and comfort.

The performers have spoken eloquently about their motivations for bringing their talents to Sing Out for Peace! “Prism of Praise is excited to be a part of this collaboration, which aims to promote peace and understanding,” said Michael Evora, director of the gospel group. Muhammad remarked, “In the 1960s, I witnessed protests for peace in which many people were badly beaten. So I welcome this opportunity to express peace through song.”

Tickets for Sing Out for Peace! are available at www.templehabonim.org; seating is limited. Doors open at 3:00 pm.
