Plans for the 4th?

Given the impending tropical forecast, what are your plans for the 4th of July?

My family traditionally attends Chepachet's Ancients and Horribles Parade, as my ancestors hail from Scituate, Foster and Glocester for over a hundred years. Glocester, RI holds its parade as a sort of parody of all of the current political and social events in RI and the nation. This year is our 88th parade! Over the years since 1926, there have been many comical and entertaining floats and social statements. It is worth the ride to north-western RI at 4pm for the show!

By the way, you have just missed the noon deadline to be in the parade and be eligible for prizes. You can still register up until noon the day of the parade, but will not be eligible for awards and prizes. I walked the with my quadriplegic uncle over 25 years ago, passing out born-again Christian pamphlets. It was hot, fun and memorable. I have attended nearly every year since!

Some of you, though, will attend the famous Bristol Parade in the morning, kicking off at 10:30am. That does give you time to enjoy the entire show, grab a bite at a nearby cookout and head up to Chepachet before they close the road a little after 3pm.

Personally, I've never attended the Bristol Parade on the 4th. Maybe as a Rhode Islander, I really should see it at least once. I do tell all the au pairs in the area to make sure they attend a parade and a cookout as part of their celebration, if possible. Independence Day in America is like nothing else, ever! Spend the afternoon in a pool or pond and don't forget to make some s'mores by the campfire Friday night! Show your children and your au pair the best America has to offer by having some good, clean fun with family and friends!

If you or someone you know has a need for a cultural childcare experience and would like more information about hosting an au pair, please refer them to me. I am Joan Lowell, your LAR, or Local Area Representative, for Go Au Pair in the RI and surrounding area. Reach me at 401.309.1925 or jlowell@goaupair.com to ask any questions. We are currently offering a great local area discount to new Host Families, with up to 15% savings! Visit us online today or call me at your convenience!
