Police to Step Up Patrols at Temple Habonim After Swastika Discovered at the Bike Path

Police are stepping up patrols around Temple Habonim and the Chabad House in town. The Department of Public Works has also removed the sign.

BARRINGTON, RI—Days after the Jewish Community Center in Providence was the target of a hoax bomb scare, another anti-Semitic act is under investigation, this time in Barrington. Police Chief John LaCross said this morning his department is looking for information about who burned a swastika into a sign at the entrance to the bike path near New Meadow Road.

"The Barrington Police were notified yesterday of a swastika burnt onto the New Meadow Neck sign located in the grassy area west of New Meadow Road and prior to the bike path trestle," the chief said. His officers have taken pictures of the vandalism and started to investigate. He is asking anyone with information about the swastika to call the police department’s Tip Line number 401-437-3933 or the detectives at 401-437-3937.”

Meanwhile, police will increase patrols around the Temple Habonim and the Chabad House in town, he said.
