Reflections In Rhode Island A Dramatic Performance of Monologues of Senior Citizens' Life Stories

This weekend, November 21 & 22, an original production of “Rhode Island Reflections; A Dramatic Performance of Monologues of Senior Citizens’ Life Stories” will be performed at 7pm, at the Bay Spring Community Center at 170 Narragansett Ave, Barrington, RI.

This amazing project is created by Barrington’s own Susan Collyer and was written from the inspiration of the generosity of The Town of Barrington, which gave money to the Community Center for a handicap access elevator lift. This gift enables all individuals, including those with disabilities, to more fully engage in activities in the Community Center. Judy de Perla, MS, East Providence Middle School English Teacher and children’s theater director has assisted Ms. Collyer with the production of this event.

This unique production takes on the lives of nine seniors in East Bay and intertwines their stories into a timeline of personal history; complete with the utilization of media to support baby photos, family movies from 1922 and wartime headlines. This staged oral history is both deeply personal and filled with national impact.

Susan and Judy interviewed nine of our East Bay, Rhode Island’s important, yet unrecognized residents; the Elders of our community. These sixty-minute interviews were transcribed and then edited into monologues, culminating in a performance which will take place on stage at the Bay Spring Community Center, 170 Narragansett Ave, Barrington, RI.
