Time For Annual White Elephant Sale

It's that time of the summer again -- time for the annual White Elephant Sale at Holy Angels on Saturday morning, July 14.

The sale is the kickoff to one of the oldest summer festivals in the East Bay in a few weeks.

“There is so much merchandise, said Barbara St. Angelo, chairwoman of the summer festival for more than 20 years. "Books, household items, sporting goods, boxes and boxes of goods."

People clean out their garages to benefit the parish, St. Angelo said.

Every item is marked with a reasonable price, she said. The white elephant sale typically raises more than $800 for the parish.

Volunteers will staff the sale.

"They work very hard," St. Angelo said.

Volunteers also will staff the August festival that at one time saw mostly Italian parishioners process through the streets of Barrington and set up push carts with traditional Italian food.

But first, Holy Angels will set the stage for the festival with its annual white elephant sale. It runs from 8 am to 1 pm in the parking lot.

Don't worry about the weather.

"We've never had rain," said St. Angelo.

The National Weather Service forecast indicates that the streak will continue. Sunny skies and temperatures in the mid to high 80s are predicted.
