Two New Firefighters Sworn In
Ryan Cardoso and Patrick Dyer go from probationary officers to full-time firefighters at a swearing-in ceremony at the Barrington Town Council meeting.

Two new Barrington firefighters were sworn in Monday evening, Dec. 5, at the Town Council meeting.
Ryan Cardoso, 23, of Riverside, and Patrick Dyer, 21, of Lincoln, took the oath of office from Fire Chief Gerald Bessette. They bring the size of the fire department to 25 officers, including the fire chief.
Bessette said both of the firefighters have been probationary officers for the past year. They carry to their full-time status EMT cardiac certifications, Level 2 rank, hazardous materials (HAZMAT) training, and proficiency on all of the department's trucks and vehicles, the fire chief said.

Cardoso is an East Providence High School graduate. He served as a volunteer at the Hampden Meadows station for a while, Bessette said.
Dyer is a Lincoln High School graduate. He served as a volunteer at the Lonsdale Fire Station in Lincoln and worked for the MedTech ambulance service before coming to Barrington, Bessette said.

Family and friends accompanied both new firefighters to the swearing-in ceremony. Their mothers pinned on their badges.
A dozen or so Barrington firefighters attended the ceremony as well in their dress uniforms.
