Warren Man Identified: Brickyard Pond Sudden Death
Joseph E. Tavares,. 46, of Warren, is the person whose body was recovered Sunday, police said.

BARRINGTON, RI—Police have identified the person whose body was recovered Sunday in Brickyard Pond. He is Joseph E. Tavares, 46, of Warren. The cause of death has not yet been determined by the State Medical Examiner, police said, but there were no signs of foul play.
Police said they were called at 8:30 a.m. Sunday about a bike, shirt, cell phone and cigarettes found on the Red Trail path in Vet's Park behind the YMCA.
"These personal belongings were located near the edge of Brick Yard Pond," police said..

A search failed to find anyone. A police officer opened the phone and dialed the last two contact numbers in the cell phone. Information from a last called party revealed that the phone belonged to Tavares. The party advised that she had not seen him since 3 p.m. Saturday.

"While Barrington Fire personnel and watercraft were on their way to Brick Yard Pond, dispatch received a 911 call from a man fishing from a boat on Brick Yard Pond stating he had observed a body in the water near the island area," police said. "Subsequently, Mr. Tavares’ body was recovered from the water by Barrington Fire Department personnel and the body did not show signs of foul play at that time."
