A man and a woman left the Shaw's Supermarket without paying for an air conditioner, police said. There was more to the story, it turned out

BARRINGTON, RI — A Warren woman has been charged in connection with stolen air conditioners. Police said Kerrianne Bettencourt, 39, allegedly stole six units worth $800. She is due back in court on July 14. Barrington police said she was identified after they posted her picture and asked for the public's help finding her.
Police had been called to the Shaw's on April 27 at 12:40 p.m. for a report about a larceny. The store said a man and a woman walked out the door without paying for the portable air conditioner in their shopping cart. They were last seen on the Bike Path.
Then, police learned on April 29 a woman was seen on the Bike Path pushing a shopping cart with two small air conditioners. Detectives contacted the supermarket and found out six units were missing. The police sent surveillance video to news outlets. Tips led them to Bettencourt. Warren police took her into custody on May 11.
