White Church Bridge Open with No Weight Limits
The new Central (White Church) Bridge opened to both directions this week.

The new White Church Bridge in Barrington is now open to both directions of traffic and all vehicles are allowed to cross now that the weight limit is no more.
The bridge is officially the Central Bridge, but most residents are sticking with the White Church name.
The $15.4 million contract with Cardi Corporation was announced by the state Department of Transportation in 2013.

The new bridge is the same length as the old one but it added a third lane and is 21-feet wider.
The bridge is designed to last 75 years.

The new bridge was built after more than six years of planning.
Though the bridge is open, there will be some lingering work. The DOT said in a news release that the focus now turns to the demolition of the remaining portion of the old bridge.
“Although there are no lane closures planned, there may be brief traffic stoppages to allow for material and equipment deliveries,” the statement said.
