William E. Sutton, 85, Former Planning Chief in RI
Sutton lived in Barrington for 53 years; calling hours are Saturday, April 6.

William E. "Bill" Sutton, of Rosedale Avenue, a resident of Barrington for 53 years, died on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Sakonnet Bay Manor in Tiverton. He was 85.
Sutton was the husband of Jean (Prestat) Sutton and father of the late William "Toby" Sutton.
He was born in New York City, a son of the late William "Larry" E. L. and Muriel (Woodhead) Sutton; a Navy veteran of WWII serving aboard the USS Thurston and a graduate of Harvard University. He received both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Urban Design and City Planning.
He was the Chief of Planning to the Development Council for the State of Rhode Island, serving as a planning advisor to various small towns until retiring.
He was a lifelong model train enthusiast, and enjoyed camping and classical music and was an avid follower of sports car racing and the America’s Cup.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Derek Sutton (BHS 71) and wife Morgaine Beck of Falmouth, MA, and Kenneth Sutton (BHS 73) and wife Joann of South Dartmouth, MA.
Calling hours at the Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Avenue, Riverside will be on Saturday, April 6, from 1 to 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in his name to a charity of your choice.
