The Kickemuit Middle School Music Department achieved gold awards for their Concert Band, Chorus, and Jazz Band at the Great East Festivals in Derry, NH this past Friday, June 1st.
Student ensembles were adjudicated on their overall musicianship and performance as they performed two selections of contest literature for a panel of judges. The KMS Concert Band, directed by Mrs. Melissa Labonte, performed “The Invincible Warrior” by David Shaffer and “As Twilight Falls” by Robert Sheldon. The KMS Chorus, directed by Mr. Andre Arsenault, sang “O Sifuni Mungu” arr. Roger Emerson, “Jubilate Deo” by Mary Lynn Lightfoot, and “The Song that Nature Sings” by Ruth Elaine Schram. The KMS Jazz Band, directed by Mr. Jeffrey Brackett, performed “Tumbleweed Gulch” and “Sherlock’s Gone Home” by Dean Sorenson. Student soloists also showed off their improvisation skills in these songs.
