Allison’s vibrant art quilts combine traditional quilting techniques with hand dyed fabrics, beading, couched fibers, inks and paint. Her fabrics and subjects often draw inspiration from her many years abroad in Japan, Russia, Oman, Tunisia and Switzerland. In each country she observed local fiber art traditions and has incorporated many of these elements into her work. Allison’s mother was a watercolor artist and her father is a cabinet maker, so it feels right to her to combine the color and geometry of these two mediums into quilting. Allison lectures on Quilting Around the World and teaches at Knit One Quilt Too in Barrington. She and her husband, Dick Wilbur, have a project, Quilt for Change, that curates art quilt exhibits on topics related to women’s issues which have been displayed at the United Nations and at major U.S. quilt shows.
