The 'Art' of Creative Learning

Photography and Art is all around us, using the internet to learn and create your own work can be very rewarding and fun for all ages and skill levels.

It’s been some time since I have updated a posting here on Patch but now that things have settled in a bit I’ve got plenty to share. The winter hasn’t slowed me down and I’ve fought off some bitterly cold mornings to enjoy a seaside sunrise and work on honing my skills and developing some new techniques. I’ve also had the incredible opportunity to be accepted along with 5 other photographers from the United States and Europe into an online mentorship program via Google Plus with Randy Jay Braun, a professional photographer from Hawaii known as, "Hawaii’s Photographer” and owner of Maui’s oldest gallery. Having an opportunity to be able to interact with such an inspirational photographer and down to earth guy like Randy has been very rewarding.

Recently I was engaged in a conversation with another fellow photographer about looking back 15, 20 or 25 years ago and how the hobby and profession has changed. The “art” of creative learning has changed and social networking along with sharing and critiquing of photos has moved the hobbyist into creating some very visually stimulating art. You are finding more highly regarded pro-level photographers offering advice, working on work-shops and giving back to a community. I think even if you don’t have any ambitions in photography, following one of the many emerging photographers online can really brighten the darkest day, beautiful and fun pictures have a way of quickly transporting us and will give you a quick boost.

A few places to look if you are starting out with photography would be the New School of Photography or the Digital Photography School. I highly recommend Google Plus, a social network which is much like Facebook but it has been embraced by the artistic community and is flourishing with ideas, tips and plenty of great work where you can immerse yourself with hours of inspiration.
