Bristol Fire Victim Has Died

BRISTOL, RI — Fire Chief Michael Mello confirmed Friday that one of the victims in the March 30 house fire on Fernwood Road has died.

"Both occupants were transported to the hospital after self-extricating themselves from the house," Chief Mello said. "John Mason and John Mason Jr. were the occupants. The elder Mr. Mason passed away earlier this week. I am unsure of the exact cause of death; however, both were exposed to heat and toxic gases associated with the fire, with the elder Mr. Mason also sustaining some burns to the upper body."

Mason was 76.
