Bristol Police Arrest Cicilline's Brother for DUI

John M. Cicilline, Bristol resident and brother to Congressman David Cicilline, was arrested by Bristol Police on Thursday night for allegedly driving drunk.

According to police, Cicilline, 55, of 119 High St., drove his 2000 gold colored Lincoln through a stop sign at Thames and Franklin Streets in downtown Bristol. Police say the officer followed the vehicle and clocked Cicilline traveling at 45 miles per hour on Thames Street.

Police say the officer stopped Cicilline, who was the only person in the vehicle, in the area of 251 Thames St. According to police, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and asked Cicilline take a field sobriety test. Police say Cicilline agreed, and upon taking the test, the officer advised him that he was incapable of operating a car.

Cicilline was arrested for a first offense DUI, refusal to take chemical test, and was cited for speeding and obedience to a stop sign.

His pre arraignment was held at Bristol Police headquarters where a $1,000 personal recognizance was set. Cicilline's arraignment for the DUI will be held on May 9 at 6th District Court. His traffic violations will be heard at the RI Traffic Tribunal Court on New London Avenue in Cranston on May 14.
