Bristol Police Ends Birthday Parade Program
The department said it has been an "honor and privilege" to take part, but that there have been too many requests for officers to attend.

BRISTOL, RI — Bristol police will no longer accept requests to join birthday parades, the department said. As the state continues to reopen and summer approaches, the department has more responsibilities and can no longer guarantee officers will be available for these events.
The department has participated in "countless" parades during the coronavirus pandemic, allowing children to celebrate their birthdays while stuck at home under the stay-at-home order.
"Our officers have enjoyed participating in these events, and it has been an honor and privilege to bring joy during a stressful time for these children," the department said. "Unfortunately, we regret to announce that we will no longer be accepting requests to participate in these parades. The requests have increased to a point that we can no longer guarantee our presence."

In addition, phase two of reopening allows for gatherings of up to 15 people, meaning kids can once again celebrate with friends. All requests that have already been submitted will be honored.
"The Bristol Police Department is committed to community policing, and you should expect to see Bristol Police officers around the town of Bristol engaging with the community and participating in a variety of events throughout the summer," the department continued. "Have a safe and great summer!"
