BRISTOL, RI — Bristol police Lt. Steven St. Pierre won the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association's (RIPCA) Officer of the Year award.

The award is given annually for outstanding efforts in the community. St. Pierre was recognized for his work in suicide prevention, with Bristol's Safe Station, gun buyback program, substance abuse advocacy with East Bay Mental Health, setting up COVID-19 testing and vaccination clinics, women's self-defense classes, active threat training and working with the Youth leadership Camp.

"It's committed officers like Lt. Steven St. Pierre that make the Bristol Police Department the premier law enforcement agency in the region," Police Chief Kevin Lynch said in a statement. "It's extremely rewarding to have the safest community in Rhode Island and the safest college town in the entire USA, and having our personnel recognized is very gratifying. We are very proud to have our community recognized and our staff. Thanks for making a difference, Lieutenant."
