Bristol Art Museum

The Bristol Art Museum is inviting artists to take a closer look at the familiar moments and scenes that often go unnoticed as part of a new summer exhibition, “Everyday Wonders,” opening June 16 at the Rogers Free Library. The deadline to submit artwork is Mon., May 25, and artists selected for the exhibition will be notified by Fri., Jun. 5.

The exhibit, which will remain on display through July 29, invites artists to reflect on the small but meaningful details that shape daily life in Bristol during the summer months, which could include neighborhood gatherings, children playing outside, evening walks, flags lining the streets, sunlight on the harbor, and the traditions surrounding the town’s famed Fourth of July season and the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Jen Charleson, a Bristol artist whose work is known for blending layered textures, organic forms, and influences ranging from meditation to sacred geometry, will serve as the juror for the exhibit. Charleson also operates Plumb Gallery in downtown Bristol.

“There’s something special about artwork that helps people see familiar things in a new way,” said Jenn Tappero, Bristol Art Museum at the Rogers Free Library Committee member. “So much of summer in Bristol is tied to memory, tradition, and community. We’re hoping artists will capture those moments that feel personal, honest, and connected to everyday experience.”

The Bristol Art Museum’s gallery space at Rogers Free Library has become a gathering place for exhibitions that highlight both emerging and established regional artists while making art accessible to the wider community.

Submissions are open to artists aged 18 and older. Eligible artwork includes painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, collage, and fiber arts. All entries must be original, ready to hang, and limited to a maximum size of 18 by 24 inches. Three-dimensional work will not be accepted for this exhibition. <a href="https://www.bristolartmuseum.org/everyday-wonders.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Artwork may be submitted here</a>.&nbsp;

Artists may submit up to two works. Entry fees are $20 for one submission or $30 for two submissions for Bristol Art Museum members. For non-members, the fee is $25 for one submission or $40 for two.

Call for Art: Bristol Art Museum Seeks Artwork Celebrating  the Beauty of Everyday Life

Blithewold Manor, Gardens & Arboretum

Join us on the last Tuesday of each month, from March through May, for fun (and educational) hands-on learning at Blithewold! This year we will offer programs in science, history, and art. Each month, we explore intriguing topics in the arts, history, horticulture, environmental science, and climate change.
Indoor and outdoor learning experiences complete our curriculum, which aligns with RI, MA, and CT state standards. Between sessions, there is plenty of time to enjoy a nice picnic or run out some energy on the Great Lawn. Check our website for more information on our monthly themes and activities.
This is a drop-off program designed for Ages 8 – 13. An adult chaperone is required to remain on the Property for security.
Students are to check in at the Visitor Center, and one adult chaperone must remain on the property until pickup. Please bring a lunch, a refillable water bottle, and dress for the weather, as we often take our lessons outside! Lunch will be enjoyed from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Adult chaperones and younger siblings are welcome to picnic on the Grounds with the students.

Join the Bristol Land Conservation Trust on Monday, June 1, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at Mount Hope Farm, 250 Metacom Ave., Bristol, RI, for a guided native tree walk with renowned arborist Matt “Twig” Largess, the “Voice of the Forest.” A seasoned arborist, Matt travels the eastern seaboard in search of Champion Trees and Old Growth Forests. During this walk, participants will explore some of the remarkable trees at Mount Hope Farm, many of which are native to the United States. Thanks to the efforts of the Mount Hope Farm staff, Matt Largess, and dedicated volunteers, Mount Hope Farm is now a designated arboretum. Along the way, participants will learn what makes a tree healthy, the important role trees play in nature, and the common threats they face. If you’re not already a tree lover, you may become one after this walk. Please meet at the barn at 5:15 p.m. and wear comfortable walking shoes. Light refreshments will be served following the walk. Admission is $15 per person, with a maximum of $25 per family, payable at the door. BLCT members attend free. Become a member that evening and enjoy free admission to all our events.
