Colt Andrews Students Teach Others About Tubman, African American History

Harriet Tubman was the topic of Colt Andrews monthly community celebration.

students gave a compelling presentation last Friday at their monthly "community celebration" day for students and parents. The third graders from Mrs. Dutra, Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Vaillancourt’s classrooms narrated the story of escaped slave and abolitionist Harriet Tubman. Some students read the biography of Tubman while others engaged in “minimalist theater” by miming the accompanying actions. A projection above the stage showed off the students’ colorful quilt squares based upon periods in Tubman’s life.

At the presentation students also gave out awards for achievements in art, physical education, library, and music. To see clips from the event, check out the video.
