Community Rallies to Support Warren Family after Fire

Pete Winters, a volunteer firefighter himself, lost everything in a fire. He has a wife and three children.

The Warren community is stepping up to help a local family picking up the pieces after a devastating house fire on Tuesday.

The fire started shortly after Annmarie Winters left the house to pick up the family’s three children.

The fire was apparently started in a faulty dishwasher and spread to the rest of the kitchen.

The quick work by members of the Warren Fire Department prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the house, but the heat, water and smoke damage has made the house unlivable and virtually all of their possessions were ruined.

Pete Withers is a volunteer firefighter for Rough and Ready Engine 5 in Warren and is a former member of the Rehoboth Fire Department.

“Pete has donated countless hours to the Fire Dept. Whether it is responding to calls at any hour of the day or night, donating his time and money fundraising for various community orginizations in town, and he is always willing to give those in need a helping hand,” states the fundraising description on a GoFundMe page established to help the family.

So far, as of Thursday, $2,770 of the $5,000 goal has been raised.

The fundraiser’s originator, MIchaela Sousa, said the Withers family is lucky to have a camper to stay in temporarily, but “Their daughters are devistated! This could be any one of us! This is the time that our friends Pete and Annmarie, who are always willing to help everyone else, could really use your help.”
