This year, Blithewold’s “intimate” garden tour series is taking a different approach. Aside from aesthetics, the gardens on this tour are all unique in that they are small, privately owned properties driven by production and organic sustainable gardening methods. This Farm Tour series will inspire and encourage “gardening for a purpose” on a small scale.

Join Kelli and Mike Roberts for a tour of their small-scale organic farm in Tiverton. The fundamental aim of their farming style is to grow nutrient dense crops -- crops that are healthier, less susceptible to pests and disease, last longer and taste better. This aim is accomplished by feeding the soil the organic amendments it needs to encourage and sustain beneficial soil microbial life. Kelli and Mike will also discuss soil testing for macro- and micro-nutrients, as well as steps for balancing the nutrient content of soils.
The farm tour will include a demonstration of their small-scale, year round, Eliot Coleman-style farming method. Crops grow year round in unheated greenhouses, most of the work is done by hand, and efficient field and bed layouts allow for high productivity on a small plot of land.
