Pruning is a horticultural practice that allows us to alter the form and growth of a plant. When done correctly, pruning is also preventive maintenance during a tree or shrub’s formative years. Join Director of Horticulture Fred Perry and Assistant Grounds Manager Dan Christina as they demonstrate proper pruning practices and techniques, using various plants among the gardens and grounds. Topics will include the removal of dead or dying branches or branches that rub together, promoting a plant’s natural shape, controlling plant size, and encouraging flower and fruit development.
