A restorative yoga class for women cancer survivors in the final stages of treatment and/or recovery. The class combines restorative postures, deeply relaxing breath awareness, mindfulness meditation, and gentle seated or supported standing postures to facilitate healing and a sense of well-being. The practice of therapeutic yoga has been shown to improve the flow of the lymphatic system, crucial to proper immune system functioning. The integration of yoga postures, breath (pranayama) practice and mindfulness meditation has been studied and documented by both eastern and western medicine as a holistic therapy to support women undergoing cancer treatment and recovery. Women in these studies experienced continued softening of post surgical scar tissues, improved flexibility and enhanced mood. This class invites students to regain a positive body image with a renewed sense of joy and serenity. The class is taught by Alicia Barry 200-RYT. Alicia is a two time cancer thriver and has recently celebrated her 6th year post breast cancer anniversary. Alicia has over 200 certified continuing education hours of training in the therapeutic application of yoga and meditation for cancer survivors. Pre-registration for this class is required and is handled directly by the Gloria Gemma Foundation. To register, or for questions, email laurie@gloriagemma.org
