Gas Leak Forces School and Business Evacuations in Downtown Bristol

Colt Andrews School students were moved to First Congregational Church.

A construction crew working in the road in front of on Hope Street in Bristol cut into a gas pipe Monday afternoon. A police officer working the construction detail called it in, and the evacuated all businesses from to , as well as the students in the .

National Grid is on scene and working to repair the pipe. They have turned off the gas supply.

All students were moved to at the corner of Bradford and High streets, which created confusion for parents who were trying to pick up their children at the end of the school day.

Officials say they are hoping the problem is resolved within the next hour, however, readings will have to be taken in the buildings before anyone will be allowed to re-enter the schools.
