Get Out: Find Music, Food, Laughter and 'Love' This Weekend

It's a Super Weekend in Bristol and Warren: Free music, great food that benefits good causes, Love in the Air, and a funny night at the theater.

Okay, you’ve had it with the weather. It’s time to put down the snow shovel and buckets of ice melt and go have some fun this weekend. For one thing, it’s Super Bowl Sunday! It’s also February, the month of love.

Whether it’s music, entertainment, or culture youā€˜re looking for, Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your ā€œThank Goodness This Week is Overā€ time.

1. LAUGH OUT LOUD WITH 'BECKY SHAW'

Where/When: Warren’s , either Thursday, Feb. 4, at 7 pm, Friday, Feb. 5, at 8 pm, or Sunday, Feb. 6, at 3 pm. (Sat. night is already sold out!).
Why go: To support and enjoy great theatre right in your own back yard, and this comedy written by Brown grad and former Providence resident Gina Gionfriddo is getting rave reviews. Laughter is the best medicine!

2. FREE DAY AT THE AUDUBON
Where/When: Audubon Society’s Environmental Education Center, 1401 Hope St., Bristol; Saturday, Feb. 5, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go: Because it’s free admission on the first Saturday of every month, thanks to Citizens Bank. Sure, it’s winter, but there’s still a lot to see here and it will make you long for spring. The current art exhibit, ā€œA Natural Perspective," shows photography by Mike Tucker, Audubon refuge manager and naturalist.

3. "THE COLORS OF LOVE"
Where/When: , 435 Hope St., Bristol; Saturday, Feb. 5, 3 to 6 p.m.
Why Go: Because itā€˜s February, the month of love, and this exhibits the theme through many different media. Try it, if you’ve never been to a gallery opening. Warm up with some new friends and enjoy what your local art scene has to offer. Light refreshments served.
Price: Free

4. CHOWDER AND CLAMCAKE DINNER
Where/When: St. Thomas the Apostle Church Hall, 500 Metacom Ave., Warren; Friday, Feb. 4, 5 to 7 p.m.
Why Go: You will help send the hard-working kids of the Mt. Hope High School Marching Band to perform in Disney World and Universal Studios this spring. Chowder, clamcakes, desserts and beverages will be served family style, sponsored by the Barrington-Warren Rotary Club and the band. Not a black tie event, but it’s Friday night and someone else will cook hot food for you – for a good cause.
Price: Tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under

5. MACARONI, MEATBALLS AND MORE
Where/when: cafeteria; Friday, Feb. 4, 5 p.m. Dinner is from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Live Auction begins at 7 p.m.
Why Go: Fair’s fair. The annual Kickemuit Middle School Macaroni Supper also benefits a good cause, supporting the Kickemuit Middle School programs. Enjoy a tasty pasta dinner cooked by someone else, and perhaps, nab some of the auction items.
Price: Tickets $7 grade 9 –adults; $5 for K-8 grade

6. FREE CLASSICAL CONCERT AT RWU
Where/When: Roger Williams University Performing Arts Center (The Barn) 1 Old Ferry Road; Sunday, Feb. 6, 2 p.m.
Why go: The Community Music Works Players with pianist Sang Woo Kang perform as part of the Alive! Arts Series. This free performance for the public features works by Beethoven, Faure, and Schumann.
